The Quran is the holy book of Islam, containing the word of Allah, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad over 1,400 years ago. It is considered the most sacred and important text in the religion, and its recitation is an integral part of Muslim worship and practice. Quran reading is not just a religious obligation, but it also offers numerous benefits to the reader.
Benefits (Fadail) of Quran Reading
‘Uthmān ibn ‘Affān رضی اللہ عنہ reported that the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ said: “The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari).
Rasoolullah ﷺ said, “The believer who recites the Qur’an is like a citron whose fragrance is sweet and whose taste is delicious. A believer who does not recite the Qur’an is like a date-fruit which has no fragrance but has a sweet taste. The hypocrite who recites the Qur’an is like basil whose fragrance is so sweet, but its taste is bitter. The hypocrite who does not recite the Qur’an is like a colocynth which has no fragrance and its taste is bitter.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim).
The Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ said, “The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur’an will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur’an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have two rewards.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim).
How to read Quran properly?
Some basic rules are very important to read Quran-e-Kareem properly. Rules of Quran recitation are as follow;
Tajweed
The term “Tajweed” is well-known to those who have studied the Quranic recitation. Its literal definition is “to perfect, beautify, or improve.” Within the Islamic context, Tajweed refers to a set of regulations that assist readers in reciting the Quran just as Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ learned from Jibreel.
Tajweed not only enhances the beauty of Quranic recitation, but it also safeguards against any potential errors that may alter the intended message. In the absence of Tajweed, mispronunciation of letters or incorrect elongation can significantly impact the meaning of words, thus emphasizing the importance of adhering to its rules.
